Artist Statement
My strengths are in colour and composition. My art style has an elegant and reserved feel with a strong sense of balance. I chose colour palettes that flow harmoniously together with the completed image. In my portfolio, the best examples of this are in ‘digital’ and
‘misc.’ sections. I use colours and eye direction to keep viewers on the piece without overwhelming or losing them.

Time and sound based mediums are my weaknesses. Despite the six pieces in that section, I struggled to find the ones that showed my capabilities as an artist. If I had taken another communications class or the beginning 2D animation class, I would have gotten a better grasp on the medium. The pieces show more my ability as a story teller rather than how well I was able to use the video as a medium.
Out of all the art classes I have taken, I would say ART1201C Design Fundamentals at Hillsborough Community College, ART213 3D Computer Modeling/Texturing, ART310 Creative Coding, and COM381 Digital Imaging pushed me the most as an artist. I learned how to take an idea beyond its fullest potential within Design Fundamentals. In 3D Computer Modeling/Texturing, I developed a better sense on how 3D animation works and how to develop it into a short animation. In Creative Coding, the class pushed me to develop a new way of building illustrations with HTML5 coding. The Digital Imaging class was able to help me refine my skills with digital photographs in Photoshop.
After graduation, I see myself continuing to work with Theory Studios, the international, virtual animation studio. I will be able to develop a better grasp on 3D animation either as a layout artist or animator. As a digital artist, I would like to see how I can incorporate what I have learned in school with my own projects and ideas. I can see myself creating an illustration similar to the
‘Ruohan’ image in my portfolio. Expanding my skills in the digital arts medium will help me push my style to new boundaries.
